Greetings! - February 11, 2021
Dear SFRRC and Friends,
My sincere and utmost appreciation and thanks goes to our passionate, gracious and loving former President John Brust. I personally will forever think of him as President JB of SFRRC. We as a club and running community are grateful for his service and kindness. Please read John's thank you and farewell letter here .
With much respect to the so many amazing SFRRC members past and present, I am humbled and honored to serve as your next President. During my time, with the help of our dedicated board, pace group leaders, coaches, ambassadors and you, we will do our best to getting us back safely to club runs, fun community and team activities and the camaraderie, kinship and SFRRC family that you and I so dearly miss.
The past year needless to say has been a challenging time for all of us, however the strength, resilience and commitment of the SFRRC community has taught me how even more special this club really is. Even through unprecedented times, we persevere, remain optimistic, and overcome. We lift each other up and keep this community strong by gathering virtually, calling our running buddies, meeting up for a safe socially distanced masked run, encouraging one another on social media or wearing our SFRRC gear proudly. We inspire each other by continuing to do what we enjoy and love – run.
So to keep things brief, I can't wait to see you all in person very soon, when we can gather safely, be grateful for one another’s company and share the roads and trails, a nice meal and drink, laughter and conversation and the experience of running together. Because together we are stronger.
With Warm Regards,
Matthew Jeung (Matt)
Club run and gathering update: We are continuously monitoring the health orders and guidelines from San Francisco regarding outdoor gatherings, recreation and athletic activities as well as COVID case and vaccine data to make the most right and responsible decision(s) and actions for the club and community. Please let us know if you have any questions or comments. Thank you!
P.S. It is with joy that we bring this uplifting story to you. We held back on sharing immediately because we needed to be attentive to the coronavirus situation/health orders that were beginning. But, in the first half of March last year, Chau Smith completed her quest of running a marathon in each of the 50 States... at the Big Island International Marathon (replete with waterfalls, surfers, lava beaches, sea spray, and rain forest) with all of her family present.
What are your fitness/running goals? Join our SFRRC community to get connected during this shelter-in-place. We are hosting live "Athlete's Lab / Yoga for Runners" sessions via Zoom on Wednesday evenings for Club Members and your guests. And if you need to go outside for a run or walk, we're having a running "challenges" happening often. They are good fun! Plus, get an SFRRC running shirt and new mask (usable for running) that we've worked with Boco Gear on!
And after these days of solo running are over, we look forward to having you join us, San Francisco's largest running club, on the streets (track and trails too) of our city, for our happy hours, educational club nights, breakfasts and more! Whether you are training for a 5k or marathon or just want to run with some good/kind people, the San Francisco Road Runners are with you.
We typically run five times a week: Saturday for our Club Runs (75+ runners), Tuesday nights at Kezar Track, Wednesday nights from Sports Basement-Presidio, Thursday nights along the Embarcadero, and Sunday mornings on trails in Marin. Before the pandemic, we had 500 members of all ages and training paces from 7:00 min/mile to 11:00 min/mile, you'll find plenty running at your
pace.
Train or qualify for Boston with us or train for San Francisco or one of the World Marathon Majors or another destination race or one of your choice. It’s way more fun and a lot easier with others... especially the long runs.
SFRRC's inaugural Running Camp took place in early May of 2019 in Occidental and its surrounding trails/roads and the Sonoma coast... kicking-off on the lovely Kortum Trail.
SFRRC Book Club - we read four books in 2020 and they began again in February 2021!
