Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
The health and safety of our runners is our #1 priority.
All SFRRC runs are canceled until further notice. The City's Public Health Order for residents to STAY HOME has been extended until May 3rd. Isolation is the only way to flatten the curve on the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) and save lives. Per the updated health orders, we may go outside for a run near our homes. If you need to get into a car or on public transportation to go for a run, you’re going too far. When outside, be vigilant to maintain the mandatory physical distancing of at least six feet from any other person (we encourage far more additional space when exercising particularly if running behind another person based upon simulations that we've seen), avoid groups, and cover your face.
Our sincere THANK YOU to every grocery store worker, pharmacist, delivery worker, and, of course, our nurses (including our March Member of the Month - Diodita) and doctors, and everybody on the front line and helping support our healthcare system and keep our city safe. Plus, to the researchers in the scientific community looking to find a cure, thank you.
Let’s look out for one another, be kind, and do our best to make this time a little better for others. If you do run, give tons of space (for everybody's safety), and from afar give a nod, wave, smile, or a thumbs up. And, on a different note, maybe say "thank you" a little more often to those serving us. The world can use more love... and everybody appreciates it. If you know the phone number of an older neighbor or family member who could be alone, give them a call. Social isolation is real. During these trying times, it's important to check in with our loved ones and others too. We are grateful that the SFRRC spirit is alive and that you are such a conscientious crew!
To repeat, the most important thing we can do right now is to STAY HOME. But, when heading out for groceries or a run, practice very generous physical distancing, be good models of solo running, and avoid busy areas and times. Let's do this and be committed to it. And take a role in stopping the spread of COVID-19.
We appreciate each one of you very much and look forward to seeing you (and running with you) again. Stay positive and healthy. Together we will get through this. With tons of gratitude and hope. We miss you all. ✌🏼️❤️
P.S. It is with joy that we bring this uplifting story to you. We held back on sharing immediately because we needed to be attentive to the coronavirus situation/health orders that were beginning. But, in the first half of March, Chau Smith completed her quest of running a marathon in each of the 50 States... at the Big Island International Marathon (replete with waterfalls, surfers, lava beaches, sea spray, and rain forest) with all of her family present.
