SFRRC MOVIE NIGHTS

In 2018 we began our SFRRC movie nights with private screenings of movies designed to inspire our members and bring a little relaxation and joy in the process. The evenings were good fun and we surely left with a little spring in the step to run a bit more, get in a little better shape, or even ask ourselves if we could give a little more in preparation for or at the end of our next race. At each of our movie nights, we have pizza and drinks for all. Seating is limited to 35 people. They fill-up quickly, so RSVP as soon as you know you will be able attend.

We'll publish upcoming movies as soon as we have them scheduled.

Our sincere thanks to Alejandra Cadena (2019 Boston Marathon Race Captain & previous Club Ambassador) for organizing the evenings!

    Opening 2019 Screening - Sunday, March 10th - 5:30pm

Transcend is a film about a runner that ends up being about so much more: faith, service, and courage. I was riveted.” (Malcolm Gladwell, best selling author)

Produced by Kennedy/Marshall (The Bourne Identity, Seabiscuit and The Armstrong Lie) the filmmakers follow Wesley Korir on his spiritual and life-changing quest after winning the world’s most prestigious marathon in Boston. He risks it all and returns home to help his fellow Kenyans create better lives for themselves. In what proves to be the most challenging race of his career, Wesley takes on a well-financed, big-party candidate to run for a seat in Kenyan parliament, attempting to balance the frenzy of campaigning with the demands of marathon training.

Transcend is the story of the elusive spiritual energy that is somehow forged in the intense rigor of long-distance running, an energy Wesley Korir is using to transform the nation that has done more than any other to change the face of the marathon.

The film has been lauded by veteran runners, commentators and professional athletes alike for capturing the true spirit of long distance running:

  • In every marathon I have covered, we’ve tried to explain the Kenyans. This film nails it,“ says Al Trautwig, the NBC, MSG Sports Commentator.
  • “A moving and enlightening look at a rare individual. . . It will be people like Wesley who set the pace for a brighter Kenyan future” (Toni Reavis – Veteran broadcaster, and Running Times columnist)

    2018 "Movie Night" screenings:
"BOSTON - The Documentary" (released in 2017) -- the first feature-length documentary film about the world's most legendary running race - the Boston Marathon.

"Spirit of the Marathon" -- the first feature-length documentary film to capture the essence, drama, unique spectacle of the famed 26.2-mile race. It features/follows five runners - three amateurs and two elites - as they train for and race the Chicago Marathon.

Los Angeles Times said “Even if you’ve never run for anything but a bus, you’ll… get swept up in this movie’s inspiring journey!”

"Spirit of the Marathon II" --  it features/follows seven runners on a journey to a race that will change their lives forever... the Rome Marathon.

Running Times called it “Spirit of the Marathon II the best running movie ever made!”
